Active Ants is developing Europe's most efficient e-fulfilment warehouse in Roosendaal.

Active Ants has rented a new 20,000 m2 warehouse in Roosendaal (North Brabant). This allows the company to accommodate the growth of its e-fulfilment activities in the Netherlands. The facility is currently being built by developer VGP parks and will be ready by June of 2020. Active Ants hopes to kick off its activities in Roosendaal in the third quarter of 2020.

With the help of a goods-to-man system (Autostore) with 200,000 bins and three automated packaging machines, the new facility in Roosendaal will be able to process millions of packages per year for hundreds of online shops. “The output per square metre will be even more efficient that in our existing semi-automated warehouse in Nieuwegein,” says Jeroen Dekker, Managing Partner at Active Ants. To realise this, Active Ants has further developed its proprietary warehouse software, a new method of order picking with the Autostore will be introduced and various robot technologies and artificial intelligence will be used.

Just last month, Active Ants took over its competitor MCS Fulfilment from Etten Leur. “It is no coincidence that we are now renting a building in Roosendaal that is located fewer than twelve kilometres away from MCS’ sites. We will relocate all MCS activities to the new facility in Roosendaal. This will immediately allow us to improve our efficiency for these orders and partially fill up the new site in Roosendaal,” Jeroen Dekker explains.

The current site in Nieuwegein will continue to exist. In 2020, its Autostore system will be expanded one last time to 80,000 bins. With that, the site will reach maximum capacity, which makes expansion to a new site a necessity. Active Ants' head office will still be located in Nieuwegein.
